                  "Smokin The Kick'n Fat Pig BBQ Contest

Richard “Big O” Overton, Correctional Officer and Teamster at Shawnee County Corrections conducted his 5th Annual Charity Barbecue with 15 competing teams from Law Enforcement and Labor.  Most of the Teams had at least one Teamster on the Team.

 The Big O’s  “Smokin The Kick'n Fat Pig BBQ Contest” Fundraiser was held this year at Sport Zone on South Burlingame Road in Topeka. The two day event that raises money for projects encouraging keeping kids off the streets, included Friday Night kids night with sack races, dunk tank, Jr. BBQ, Hot Dog eating contest, and other fun games and fundraising events.  Meanwhile the 15 teams began their preparations that allowed them the start their smokers at 3 a.m. on Saturday morning with Judging on Saturday evening.

Teams including several from the Shawnee County Jail Officers, the Carpenters Union, UPS Salina, the Kansas ExpoCentre and others worked through the night to cook their Beef, Pork, Sausage, Chicken, Sauce, and Exotic meat preparations for the competition.

First Place "Grand Master" Team was "Hamhock Mafia" and Runner Up was "I Got That H 1 FOO".

And Third Place went to "WILD WOMEN GRILLIN". Pat Kirkman and Pat Moore from the Teamsters Office, along with Shawnee Treasurers Office Teamster Michaela Kirkman Teamed with Karen Glotzbach, a Firefighter to form the “Wild Women Grillin’ all women’s team.  This being their first year competing, they also finished with a top place finish in the Exotic meat category.
